Pinned It, Made It Favorites: Take Three!

Welcome everyone!! Our favorite link on the Pinned It, Made It party from Friday was:

Stuffed Pizza Bites by Scout's Stitches!! We loved this link so much that we made it for dinner tonight!! Turned out great. Definitely going to be in our future food line-up!

Thanks for sharing!

Super Simple Skirt Tutorial

The "Bob Bob" skirt. This is a very easy skirt to make, great sewing project for beginners.

The amount of fabric you need varies on the waist measurment. My daughter wears 24 months- 2T and she just turned 2 so I am giving you the measurments for her size, you should be able to easily adjust measurements all the way up to adult.

Her waist is 20in, I double that to get the width of the fabric. The length depends on how long you want the skirt to be. Keep in mind making a casing for the elastic. So I want her skirt to go past her knees which is 12 inches, so main fabric is 12 inches but the band is 3 inches wide.

Put your band of fabric right sides together at the bottom of your main fabric, if your main fabric has pictures like mine does, make sure the pictures are right side up.

Sew along the edge of the fabrics, when you are done it should look like this

I pressed open the seam

Now make a hem at the bottom by first folding in and pressing 1/4 in

Fold and press again another 1/4 in

Sew the hem

It sould look like this, not crooked like mine though, I'm not sure why I snapped a pic of a place that wasn't straight haha!

Now making a casing for the elastic at the top fold over and press 1/4 in

Now fold over and press, my elastic was 3/4 in so I went with an inch here. Make it a tad bigger than your elastic.

Sew it, make sure its at the bottom, just remember you are shoving elastic through that hole

Now with a saftey pin on one end of the elastic shove it all the way through, make sure you don't lose your other end of elastic.

Sew the ends together, sew back and forth a couple times so that its secure

Now with right sides of your fabric together sew all the way down.

Done. So easy, it takes about 30 minutes to whip up one of these.

Made it Monday: It's Baby Time!!

Happy Monday! We've been busy lately creating new things for the shop, prototypes, and getting some personal projects out of the way.

One of my best friends is having a baby very soon and since I'm leaving for a trip to Mexico in a couple weeks, I wanted to be sure I had all my sewing projects for him done before I go. Just in case he doesn't listen to Auntie Meig and decides to make his appearance when I'm gone!

I got some super cute fabric at the store to make a carrier and car seat canopy and had so much left over that I made two changing pads, too! (Please pardon some blurriness in the pictures - I just got a new lens and am not quite used to it yet.)

changing pads, carrier, and car seat canopy
Changing pads - lined with fusible fleece and backed with fleece for absorbency and comfort.

Carrier from this pin (tutorial is linked in the pin). Very easy to follow.

Detail on carrier - isn't that fabric cute!!??

Contrasting fabrics on the car seat canopy.
Car seat canopy. I sort of used the tutorial from this pin, but only as a guide and for some measurements. I did not gather it and I made it reversible.

Other side of the canopy. So cute!!
Another friend gave me a tshirt and asked me to make her a bag to put her violin music in for ease of carrying, so I finally got around to making that for her.

I also have a cousin who is having a baby and the shower is this weekend so I made two hats for them. I made my cousin a viking hat and a monkey hat, and I made a giraffe and penguin for the friend that I made the carrier/canopy/changing pads.

I also made a Hello Kitty pillow for my littlest niece. I made a Thomas pillowcase for my nephew and my oldest niece is getting doll clothes as soon as I get them done. ;) Probably Tuesday. Haha.

I also made myself a crochet hook roll. I'm going to Mexico for a week to build houses and I wanted a place to store my hooks that was a little nicer than a pillowcase bag. I used one of the TOMS flags that I got with one of my pair of shoes and made myself a spot to hold my hooks, scissors, needles, and chapstick!

And the last thing I'm going to share with you is the PJ pants that Brandi and I made last week. Mine are too short and took some creative sewing to fit right, and hers are a little big, but we are pretty pleased with how they came out.

So there you have it! That's what I've been up to lately. What have you been up to? :)

Foodie Friday: Tortellini with Kielbasa and Veggies

It's Foodie Friday time!! This is pretty much my favorite time of the week. It's a chance to share new recipes, favorite recipes, and get to know some of you, our readers. Thanks so much to you who linked up last week! Keep it coming!!

Right at this moment, I have learned that Great Value brand Vanilla Wafers are not as good as Value Time brand vanilla wafers. I know that seems trivial, but when you like a cookie for its crunch outside and when-dunked-in-milk-softness inside, an impostor is just unacceptable. I'm going to eat them anyway because I bought them, but I wanted to share that information with you.

Enough rambling. Onto the good stuff! On Monday I went to dinner at my good friend's house and she made a delicious dinner of kielbasa, zucchini, and tomatoes over bowtie pasta. I loved it so much that when I saw this recipe recommended by someone on Pinterest, I wanted to try it! Too bad I couldn't find shelled edamame at my grocery store. Improvisation time!! I snagged a bag of frozen veggies, some kielbasa, some tortellini, and made off with my plans for dinner.

Enter: delicious dinner take 2.

You need:
1 pkg kielbasa (I used the 'light' one that is pork/turkey mix)
1lb tri-color cheese tortellini
1 bag frozen veggies (I used the steam in the bag variety that has zucchini, squash, onions, red peppers, green peppers, and corn in it)
Seasonings (Mrs. Dash, Italian Seasoning, Garlic Powder/Salt, salt, pepper)
Butter (just a few slices)
EVOO

To make:

Put your pot of salted water on to boil. Then,

cut up your kielbasa and put in the pan with a little EVOO to brown. Once browned a bit, pull out of the pan and put into a bowl or on a plate to the side.

Add some butter to the pan and put the veggies in.

Once the veggies are nearly cooked, season with salt, pepper, garlic powder (if you use garlic salt, don't add extra salt), Mrs. Dash, and a little Italian seasoning. When it smells delicious, you have the right combo of things. :)

Then put the kielbasa back in and let it cook together.

While that's simmering, put your crusty bread in the oven to warm and pour some olive oil on a small plate. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder (again, if using garlic salt, don't add extra salt), other seasonings you want. Use for dippy.

When your pasta is cooked, drain it and mix in the deliciousness from your pan. Serve. Eat. NOM.

You can add a little extra EVOO to the pot and mix it around to give it a bit more of a saucy texture.

There you have it! Simple, delicious, and a new staple in my house!
