Made it Monday

Happy Monday! Here is a little peek at what I've been working on lately:

I went garage sale-ing with two girls I babysit last weekend and these are the spoils from my trip! I'm so happy with everything I got! That cute fabric was only 50 cents and it's about a yard and a half. Woohoo!

This weekend I was in Indianapolis to celebrate my friend Cari's birthday. She wanted a strawberry cake, so I made her one. I used the recipe from Confections of a Foodie Bride and my, oh my, was it delicious. I also used her recipe for buttercream icing and will never use another one again. This one did not break down like so many do and it was perfect. It might have worked out so well because I got to use their KitchenAid which is now in my kitchen because Cari got a new one! :) Best.Friends.Ever.

 YUM.
While I was in Indy I stopped by Crimson Tate :: Modern Quilter and checked out their selection. Uh, can I just say how much I want to live there? Heather and Shelley were SUPER sweet and I want to be their best friends. I can't wait to take Brandi there! I snagged a couple fabrics for two projects and then two fat quarters. One for me and one for B.
This fabric is going to be a skirt for Cari. Can't wait to get working on it!
Can you guess which fat quarter I got for Brandi? :)

Me and Heather in Crimson Tate. AHHHH I LOVE HER! She helped me plan out my Lorax quilt!

Anyway, back to finished projects... (you can see more pictures from my Indy weekend on my blog verrrry soon or check out my instagram feed meigheyburn)
Elmo valance for one of the kids I babysit. He LOVES Elmo and I spotted the fabric in Wal-Mart (of all places) and stitched this up for him. :)
My high school best friend had her first mother's day this year. I did the photography for their wedding so I wanted to incorporate that along with a picture of the baby for her gift. Their wedding song was 'All for Love' by Bryan Adams and Rod Stewart so I used some of those lyrics, too. I printed the pictures on tissue paper and then mod podged them onto the canvas. I used black paint on the edges to 'antique' it a bit.
Finally, here's the sneak peek I sent to Brandi of the secret project I made for her. She says it's not a good sneak peek because she can't tell what it is. I think that's ok. :)

Hope you are all well!

Made it Monday: skirts and purses

Happy Monday! I wish today was like last Monday and a national holiday so I didn't have to work, but oh well. :)

I've been trying to check a lot of things off my list lately and have been somewhat successful. I wanted to make myself a new skirt and a new purse so I whipped those up.

I didn't use a pattern for the skirt, I just took a skirt that I have and love and stole the measurements from it (with seam allowance) and went from there. I really love how it turned out and can't wait to make some more!
The fabrics are cottons from JoAnn's. I love the colors in the print and the contrast of the solid color. It is so light and airy! Perfect for summertime. :)
My friend loves this print too and has asked if I could make her a skirt with some of it too. Haha. Of course I agreed!

The purse was made with a pattern called 'Pleated Tote' from Rebeka Lambert. I loved this pattern. It was simple to follow and it made a bag that is perfect sized for me. I did a couple things differently in the final construction simply because of my sewing preferences, but I really enjoyed making this bag. It didn't take me long, either.

This button was from a jar of buttons my grandmother had from clothing items (the spare ones). I loved how different it was and I think it's perfect for my new purse. :) Good timing, too as she had cancer and I'm walking in the Cuyahoga Falls Relay for Life this weekend.
 Look! Pockets! :)

I also spent some quality time with two sweet girls. My favorite redhead and my favorite goddaughter. :)

Julie at my church's annual picnic.

Two redheads. My grandmother (her great grandmother) had red hair and they both share a name so it's back to Maryjane and me as the redheads of the family. :)

I also made a romper for sweet MJ for her first birthday. Brandi made one from the same pattern for JJ so check back for our post about our rompers!

Made it Monday

Hello everyone out there in the internets! I hope you all had a great weekend. I can't wait for my 3 day weekend coming up. I have lots of plans and family coming into town. Yay!

I only recently found all the parts to my sewing machine so I haven't really been sewing. I did hem a pair of suit pants at midnight on Thursday night because my friend needed them for a wedding on Saturday.

I've been making a lot of this:
Strawberries are so sweet right now that they don't need any sugar at all. I absolutely love eating angel food cake with strawberries and cool whip. Yum. :) I also made the cake with my new (too small) angel food cake pan. So now we know I need to only put half the batter in it. Haha.

I planted my herbs that Brandi got for me at Lowe's. I've been tending them rather well, too. I've also used some of the basil already. I need to chop off that cilantro and make some pico de gallo!

Brandi and I snagged this beauty off the curb. It was missing a few screws on the bottom which my dad fixed (love him!) and I wiped it down...

Gave it a coat of homemade chalk paint [same method as with my door table (1c flat latex paint & 2tbsp unsanded grout)] in Tropical Rainforest green:

LOVE!!
We (meaning my dad...hehe) are going to cut the legs down to make it coffee table height and use it as a coffee table in my living room. I need to paint the doors and legs, but the bugs were attacking us like crazy! (See below photo of my puppers looking super adorable and being so super good while I painted. He kept shaking his head and swatting at those crazy little buggies.)

I am ALMOST finished with a special order for a dear friend in New Zealand. I can't wait to finish it up but my hands have been sore lately so I've been slow in getting the hat finished.

So, that's what I've been up to lately. What have you been creating?

Made it Monday: Moving Meig

This last few weeks have been consumed with my packing and moving so I haven't had much time to create. JJ (Brandi's daughter - for new readers) has thoroughly enjoyed my new house though. She loves chasing the dog around (it's a little more suitably laid out for dog chasing) and squeals with delight when she throws the ball for him to fetch (because he's really good at that game now!). During the move, she was a sweet little helper. Keeping Raj occupied, wiping off surfaces with a towel, putting magnets on the fridge (and the floor), and generally being a welcomed companion to all who are in this home. Here are a couple cute shots that I took this last week and weekend. Other than pictures of the 'before' the move in, I didn't take any so I figured for this day I would give you something. :)

Playing with her toys (and a random bat the previous tenant left here).

Checking out the super moon with Pappy Fred. (My dad who absolutely adores her as if she were one of his grandchildren.)

Super moon. :)
I hope this post finds you well, happy, and safe. It's rainy here so my lawn will have to wait for another day to mow. Until then I'll keep unpacking my life one box at a time. :)

Made It Monday: More Babies!

I've been really busy lately getting things done around here. I'm moving soon so I'm trying to get a bunch of projects out of the way so I don't have to move them, too!

I made these nursing covers for my best friend from high school (the fabric on the left matches the other baby stuff I made for her) so she has a little more freedom out in public.

I also made myself a leash bag for when I'm out walking my dog. I've been reading Cesar Millan's book (Be The Pack Leader) and am trying to walk him a lot more so that I can redirect his energy. I needed a bag to hold my phone and keys so I made this one up so I don't weigh down my sweatpants when we're out.

Another good friend is having a baby so I made a boppy pillow cover, a car seat canopy, and a cute little onesie for her son.

They're going with a jungle theme for the nursery and the car seat is brown/green so I picked jungle fabric and brown as the coordinating fabric.

I really love these canopies. I'm hoping that once we clean out the shop, I can put some in there to sell in sets with the boppy cover, a changing pad, maybe a nursing cover, and a few other assorted things I've dreamed up for little people.

That's about all I've completed lately. I started working on a new bed for Raj (new house = new bed!) and a state bag for a giveaway. I have a few other things on the cutting table, but I need to pack first and reward myself with sewing. :)

I hope you're all having a great week!

Made it Monday

Happy Monday, everyone!! Isn't that flower lovely?! I snapped that pic this weekend because Brandi's favorite flowers are daffodils and I wanted to capture mine before a frost might take them.

Anyway, here's some of what I've been up to lately:

My mom asked me to make her a lamb hat for a church event so I went out and found this awesome yarn and a really great pattern. Turns out the yarn is a terrible idea for the pattern, but I was able to make the hat using my standard earflap hat and then just did the ears. I think it turned out cute!

Renee asked me to make boppy pillow covers for her, so here are two! The one matches the fabric I used for her baby carrier and car seat canopy! (I used this tutorial/pattern.)

I found this super cute tute to make these sock bunnies and dove into this project. As you can see, I lost momentum after stuffing and some hand sewing. He'll be done before Easter because JJ will be his new owner, but I just couldn't finish it right now. I think I've devised a way to make them with just one sock. If I succeed, that will be for next Tuesday Tutorial! :)

There was a lot of this going on last week and this weekend. Raj and I spent loads of time outside and of course, loads of kisses. He has this sweet face that just begs to be kissed and smushed and loved. I'm not sure how I got so lucky to have a great dog like him, but I'm forever grateful!

I hope your week has been great, too! Let us know what you've been up to lately!
