Tuesday Ten: Favorite Christmas Cookies!

Today I'm going to share 10 of my favorite Christmas cookies with you!! :) Each picture links back to the recipe for ease of access!! Enjoy!!

Sugar Cookies! A classic and done differently in every household. These were my grandmother's specialty!

No bake cookies. I'm terrible at making these, but I have a good friend who makes THE BEST ones ever. :)

Gingerbread cookies - a must have!!

Scocharoos - although we don't put the chocolate/butterscotch on top of ours. My other grandmother made these all the time. :)

Spritz!! Such a great little cookie.

Shortbread. One of my favorite cookies. I can't wait to make some of these with the butter I just bought!!

Snickerdoodles. YUM! 

Peanut butter - a classic but a favorite!

Peanut butter blossoms (what can I say, I love peanut butter!). Yum!!

Are you seeing a PB trend here? Being from Ohio, Buckeyes are a MUST at every holiday. My sister makes the best buckeyes.

Home Made Christmas

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great holiday, Meighen and I both celebrate Christmas and we would like to share with you some gifts we made.

First what we got each other

I crocheted her that yellow cowl and she is holding a tiny meat check book cover

A squirrel shirt for me ( I'm nuts about squirrels) sorry for that pun, couldn't resist.This awesome thing came from this store you really should check it out.

I made a warmie kitty for Julie, you can microwave it like a heating pad, I made it out of t shirts and I thought it would be great to use when we have to go out in the cold especially since our car heater sucks.

I painted a picture for my husband, this is his cat Mr Socks, he is a fat cat and he is flying through space.

A wallet for my big brother, upcycled from mens pants. I made a tutorial for Jubee's Craft Box.

I am stuffed, tired, and REALLY not ready to go back to work. Are you guys ready for holidays to be over or is it just me? Have a great week!

Foodie Friday- Key Lime Pie Dip

Happy Friday! Its Christmas Eve-Eve, are you ready? Are you sick of the music, cold weather and screaming kids? I know I am but I never get sick of holiday treats. We would love to see what cookies you are making for Santa or fudge so please link up your latest food creations.

When my husband and I got together one of the first things we baked together was key lime pie. We have tried it many different ways since and have decided on a simple is better kinda pie. Instead of graham cracker crust we use a pretzel crust ( made the same way just with smashed pretzels instead)

Wednesday night I decided to try it a different way again. This is a much lazier version and I believe my husband called it a "diabetic dream".

I zested all three limes into a bowl, squeezed the juice in too. Blended that with 1 can of sweetened condensed milk.

We usually make a merengue for the top of the pie but since I was making it a dip this time I just put whipped cream on top. Chilled it in the fridge for about a half an hour.

Then we used pretzels for dipping, graham crackers would have been good too.

Well you won't hear from us until after Christmas, we have a gift exchange tomorrow and Monday we will be posting pictures of our handmade gifts we made this year so be sure to check that out.

Pillowcase Apron

A few weeks ago I found this old pillowcase at a thrift store. I didn't know exactly what I would use it for but I liked it so I bought it for $.50. I just finished up a special order for 11 tote bags for my mother in law and they were fun to make but I desperately needed to sew something different.

So my pillowcase apron was born.

The open end of the pillow case is the bottom edge of the apron.

I seam ripped up one side and across the top

I cut 6 inches off the top and this is what I used for the straps

Put right sides together and sew

Turn it right side out

I folded in the edges about 1/4 in

Sewed it shut

I then cut the strap in half so that I have one for each side of the apron.

OK now on to the pleats.

I started from the middle and went out on both sides pinning and pressing 1 inch pleats until I got to the edges.

I made the pleats to be about half the length of the pillow case, except for the middle two pleats went about 1/4 of the way down.

Sew a hem on both sides

I made a casing on the top edge about 1/2 inch

With about 15 inches of thin elastic using the old safety pin elastic trick I fed it through the casing

Sewed the elastic together

I turned the elastic to make sure the sewn together part was hidden in the casing of the top of the apron.

I attached one strap to each side of the apron, right about where the pleats stop.

And thats it! an Apron made from a thrifted pillowcase
